Philip Kane is a London art-rock and soul singer who is one of the finest lyricists working in song. His four albums with his band ‘The Expendables’ have never received less than four-star reviews in major music magazines. ‘Uncut’ described his first album, ‘Songs for Swinging Lovers’, as “Al Green sings Leonard Cohen” and referred to his “novelistic range and ambition”; Rolling Stone called it a “stunning collection of neo soul” whereas Hip Hop Connection wrote, “Fuck any lyricist who can’t tell a story. Philip Kane clearly can.” Kane’s follow up, ‘Time: Gentlemen’, was awarded four stars in ‘Uncut’ and described as “a classic” in Norway’s main newspaper, ‘Dagbladet’. 

After a long break, he returned with ‘Flowers and Ledges’ in 2016. Featuring Mark Eitzel on backing vocals, it was ‘Prog Magazine’s’ art-rock album of the month and ‘Mojo’, on giving it four stars, referred to Kane’s “bleakly literate lyricism” and “aching tender tones”.

On the 26th May 2022 at Ora 0 he brings with him guitarist, Peter Wilkinson, in a stripped-down set of songs from his most recent ‘Book of Broken Things’ album. This featured Morrissey’s musical director, Boz Boorer, on guitar; Ed Harcourt on keys; and Basement Jaxx’s, Sharlene Hector, and Cousteau’s, Liam McKahey, on backing vocals. Of the album, ‘Prog Magazine’, again giving it art-rock album of the month and having it as number two in the end of the year albums poll, asked its readers to imagine “if Scott Walker had ‘gone weird’ while still delivering great tunes” and Mojo, in another four-star review, described it as “resplendent” and sitting “somewhere between Cohen, Cousteau and early Scott Walker”.

He's going to be joined by local musician Watzzy, who'll perform a set of his own work in an acoustic session #singurcuc.

This is an event for fans of the highest quality songwriting, stripped down chamber rock and lyricism that reads like poetry and, while Kane has performed in Norway, Italy, Holland, Hungary and the Royal Albert Hall (UK), it is his first ever gig in Romania
